Birth Doula

Overview
While choosing the best care provider may be the most important choice regarding your birth, finding the right support person is a close second. Studies show that women who choose to have a doula at their birth often experience shorter labors with fewer complications and are overall more pleased with their birth story. Sara is experienced in supporting families during natural, medicated and cesarean births.

Process
After an in-person or phone interview, a contract will be signed by both the doula and client defining the expectations and obligations of the partnership. At that time, one half of the Birth Doula Fee will be due. During the pregnancy, Sara will meet with the mother and partner in their home or in a local coffee shop for 2-3 prenatal visits where birth plans and labor coping will be discussed. The remainder of the Birth Doula fee is due at 37 weeks gestation. Sara will be available to come alongside the laboring mother throughout labor and even hours after birth to help establish breastfeeding, at the client’s request. One postpartum visit at 4-6 weeks will be scheduled to talk through the birth experience and discuss postpartum healing. Sara is available to her clients for questions by phone and email throughout the pregnancy and during the postpartum year.
